The old man gestured for them to step inside, his movements slow but inviting. The hidden room felt strangely safe, filled with the smell of tea and the faint hum of a space heater. “We are the ones you’ve heard whispers about,” he began. “The couple everyone believed had died in this house.” His wife nodded softly, her wrinkled face sad but kind. “They wanted to drive us out, but we refused to let them.”
