Knowing his way around

Kevin’s lungs burned as he tried to keep up, weaving through crates and squeezing between narrow walls of alleyways. The old man seemed to know every turn and shortcut by instinct, disappearing around each corner just as Kevin reached it. Kevin stumbled over a loose stone, almost falling, but pushed himself forward again. His curiosity, stronger than caution, kept driving him, no matter how irrational the pursuit now seemed.
