By the time Kevin finally set his phone down, the sun had already started to set. He realized with a shock that he had spent the entire day chasing a stranger’s story instead of showing up for work. His boss even called, the sharp tone demanding an explanation. Kevin’s heart raced, but his reply came out smoothly. Without hesitation, he made up an excuse to cover his absence.
