The flower woman

Then it happened. Just as the café closed and the nearby shops pulled down their shutters, Kevin noticed something unusual across the street. The gray-haired woman from the flower shop stepped outside, locking her door behind her. She moved slowly, her steps unsteady, as if weighed down by something invisible. In her arms she carried a fresh bouquet of flowers, held tightly as though she feared letting them go.
