No lies in her eyes
The woman nodded again, wiping her tears with a trembling hand. Her voice was soft, almost broken, as she repeated gently that she didn’t know him. Kevin had braced for deception, ready to catch her in a lie. But when he met her gaze, he froze. There was no trick there, no falseness he could detect at all. Her grief was real, her denial just as genuine. It only deepened the mystery.
