She explained that some time ago, they had sent his company a fake assignment disguised as a communication system plan for a massive new apartment complex. The request was elaborate, detailed, and real enough to pass company checks. David felt a shiver move down his spine. He remembered that assignment well. At the time, he didn’t think much of it. It was just a run-of-the-mill job.
