Thomas anchored the rope securely to a thick, sturdy tree growing next to the concrete platform. He checked the knots twice, tugging firmly to ensure nothing would slip. After that, he clipped the rope to his harness, tightening the straps around his waist and thighs. With one last glance at the forest canopy above, he switched on his flashlight and swung a tentative foot into the shaft.
