When the bidding finally started, Lilly hesitated, her finger hovering over the button. Then, in a rush of nerves, she placed an offer. Her bid was laughably low, the kind of insulting figure that usually disappears instantly under higher counters. Yet no one opposed her. The countdown timer hit zero, and just like that, Lilly owned a farmhouse she had never seen in person. It felt surreal, like she had stepped into a dream.
