James stayed glued to the doorway, his breath shallow. From this angle, he realized just how big the bird truly was. Rick looked like an equal crouched down next to it, reaching the bird’s eyes. Each time Rick moved, the bird twitched its head, studying him intently. James felt a nervous sweat bead at his hairline as he imagined what that massive beak could do if provoked.
