A sudden change
As soon as the men entered the yard, the bird froze. Its feathers seemed to stiffen, and it darted its head from side to side. It moved quickly to one side of the garden, then back again, as if looking for a way to escape. The quiet and calm from before vanished, replaced by restless, jerky movements and sharp, quick steps.
