A mad dash

Without thinking twice, James bolted toward the back door, nearly tripping over his own feet. He burst inside, slammed the door shut, and pressed his back against it, panting heavily. His hands shook as he wiped coffee off his forearms. After a quick wipe-down, he looked up and stared through the kitchen window overlooking his garden. James half-expected the giant bird to charge at the house.
