Mark locked the garden door as Linda stared out the kitchen window, eyes fixed on the fence where she’d seen a shadow just moments ago. She expected someone to lunge out, her nerves on edge. “They won’t show now, honey. They’re not stupid,” Mark said, his voice calm but firm. Linda knew he was right, but fear lingered, her gaze locked on the now-suspicious garden, her heart racing with unease.
