An endless wait
Minutes crawled by with unbearable slowness. Linda stepped forward again, her voice hesitant. “Have you found anything yet?” The specialists barely looked up, shaking their heads before returning to their screens. The rhythmic beeping and typing filled the night air, drowning out the usual chorus of crickets. Linda wrapped her arms around herself, her body shaking. Her mind spun in tight circles, the fear growing with each unanswered moment.
