Missing one

Darren was already checking the troop when Amber arrived carrying bins of fruit. “We’re still missing one,” he muttered, scanning the enclosure. Amber froze, instantly alarmed. Together they counted. He was right — eight chimps had moved toward the side door for lock-in, but Cora wasn’t among them. That was unusual. Normally, Cora was the first to settle in for the evening. They exchanged a look, concern rising. Something definitely wasn’t right this time.
