Leaving no clues

Amber reached into the blanket and gently lifted the tiny animal with both hands. It was warm, trembling faintly, and so small it barely filled her palms. There was no tag, no note, no clue about who had left it here or why. She held it close, instinctively hoping her body warmth would calm it down, but the cries didn’t stop. Neither did Cora’s urgent reaction from inside the enclosure, louder now, almost desperate.
