Cora took the bundle and immediately turned toward the far corner of her enclosure. She lowered herself onto the straw, moving with a gentleness that shocked everyone watching. Amber stayed kneeling, hardly believing what she saw. Cora’s huge hands cupped Ivey so delicately, it looked impossible. The chimp’s head bowed low as she pressed the baby close to her chest. The fragile cries softened almost instantly, replaced by calm quiet.
