Brushed Aside

When Thomas asked directly about the figure on top of the iceberg, one officer gave him a sharp look and muttered, “Nothing to worry about.” Then, with a dismissive hand, he urged Thomas back behind the line like he was scolding a child. The officer’s tone was calm but forced, as though hiding something. Thomas’s jaw tightened. He didn’t believe the explanation for a second. Something about this wasn’t adding up.
