Joining the Crowd

Among the crowd was Thomas, still dressed in his pajamas. His hair stuck up, and his slippers dragged across the street as he walked, but he hardly noticed. The rumble unsettled him more than he wanted to admit, and his chest tightened as he reached the sand. He joined the others in silence, following their gaze out to sea. The sound was growing sharper now, and the water itself seemed restless.
