The man sagged against the ice wall, exhausted. “I’ve been trying to hold them off,” he said weakly. “Trying to stop what was done here years ago.” His eyes were raw, almost pleading. “But I can’t do it anymore. I needed help. And now… maybe you’re it.” Thomas and Greg exchanged another look — this time not of disbelief, but grim acceptance. They weren’t bystanders anymore. They were part of it.
