Sirens in the Dark

They slipped back to the traps outside, crouching low. Above, engines roared awake. Police lights spun along the coast road, flashing red and blue. Officers gathered near the cordon, gesturing toward the sea. “They know,” Greg muttered. The man groaned weakly, clutching his side. Thomas put a steadying hand on his shoulder. “The right people are coming now. Just hang on.” Distant sirens whined over the hills, growing louder every second.
