Waiting Game

Minutes stretched, tense and slow. Thomas scanned the waterline, half expecting the berg to split apart on its own. But it held, groaning and sighing like a living beast. The stranger dozed fitfully, muttering broken words about barrels and warnings. Greg leaned close. “Think they’ll believe us?” Thomas gave a sharp nod. “They have to. Evidence doesn’t lie.” Still, doubt clung to the edges of his mind like the sea spray clinging to their coats.
