Arrival

The first Coast Guard cutter carved into the bay, lights blazing across the waves. A second followed, bristling with cranes and cables. Spotlights swept the iceberg, revealing jagged scars and dark streaks where water bled out. Officers barked orders from the pier. Trucks rumbled down the access road, men unloading heavy chains and towing rigs. The town stirred behind them, porch lights winking on one by one. The operation had begun.
