The First Pull

With a sharp whistle, the chains tightened. The massive cutters strained, their hulls digging deep into the waves. The iceberg shuddered under the pressure, groaning like a wounded beast. For a moment, it didn’t move. Men shouted, cables creaked, and water frothed. Thomas held his breath, fists clenched. Then, slowly, the giant shifted. Inch by inch, it turned away from the bay, tugged into open water by sheer force.
