Momentum Gained

Once it began to move, the berg didn’t stop. The cutters surged forward, chains thrumming like guitar strings. The ice moaned, cracking faintly, but it held together. A cheer rose from the shore as the town watched the monster leave their harbor. Thomas let out a shaky laugh. Beside him, Greg exhaled hard, muttering, “Didn’t think it’d work.” The stranger slumped against the pier post, whispering, “You saved them.”
