Teams in heavy suits climbed its surface, cutting, drilling, and securing leaking barrels. Each one was lifted by crane and sealed into reinforced containers. Helicopters thundered overhead, ferrying the waste to safe storage. It was slow, grueling work—but it was working. The poison was being pulled out piece by piece.
