Taking over

The intruder groaned loudly, straining against Harper’s weight, but he couldn’t break free. Boots pounded against the gravel as deputies sprinted toward them. Harper didn’t ease his grip, rage and desperation churning inside. A firm hand clamped down on his shoulder. “We’ve got it from here, Lieutenant,” an officer barked. “Step aside!” Harper glanced up, his vision swimming with adrenaline. But he couldn’t release the man. Not yet. Not now.
