Step aside

Harper hesitated, still kneeling hard against the pinned intruder. His jaw was set, questions burning holes in his thoughts. He wanted the truth—wanted it ripped out of this man before he slipped away into silence. But the deputies were already surrounding them, pulling Harper back. One officer’s voice was firm, commanding. “Step aside, Lieutenant.” Harper’s chest heaved, his eyes locked on the man struggling beneath him. He wasn’t ready.
