Attachment intensifies

The hatchlings refused to be separated from Kathy. If she left the room, they chirped frantically until she returned, pressing their bodies against the enclosure wall. At night, they scratched at the fencing to be near her. Once, Kathy gave in and let them out, only to wake hours later with all three curled around her legs, one staring at her unblinking in the dark.
