Startled, but curious

The quick burst of speed of this dark colored intruder startled Kathy to the point where she jumped back out of initial fright. But as the dust settled, only intrigue was left behind. Kathy felt her curiosity rising. So slowly, she stepped closer, pushing her feet into the still-damp grass of her backyard, toward the bushes where she saw the moving shadow.
