Alone in the dark

By eleven o’clock that night, the zoo was silent except for the faint hum of the monitors. Alison lay on the thin bedspread in the corner, her eyes fixed on the glowing screens. She could see Coco lying weakly in her enclosure, barely moving. Alison pulled the blanket tighter around her shoulders and waited, praying the animal would return before it was too late.
