He pressed. For a heartbeat, nothing. Then machinery roared alive. The rotors spun, lights blinked furiously, and a low hum spread outward.
Kevin stumbled back, stunned. This forgotten place was suddenly breathing, alive again, as if waiting for this moment. The once-dead metro entrance vibrated faintly under his feet, awakening like some great beast disturbed from its long slumber.
