Suzan stepped back slightly, making space for him. “It’s okay,” she said gently, making her voice as calm and inviting as possible. “You’re safe here.” The man looked at her for a long moment, as if weighing whether to trust her, then stepped inside. Suzan closed the door behind them, hoping she hadn’t just made the biggest mistake of her life.
