Toying with them
It was clearly visible in the distance, far enough from shore but still big enough to seem out of place. Bob squinted, leaning closer to Megan. “You saw that, too?” she asked quickly. “I definitely did,” he replied. Together, they turned back toward the water, eyes fixed on the spot where the splash had risen. The surface looked calm again, but unease filled them both. Something unseen was out there, deliberately toying with their nerves.
