Hide and seek

This time it came clearer—a soft splash echoing from the water behind them. Both of them turned quickly, eyes fixed on the horizon. But again, there was nothing. Just ripples fading across the waves, vanishing almost instantly as though whatever had caused them could disappear on command. Megan frowned, uneasy. “That’s weird,” she whispered. But then she turned back toward Bob, forcing a smile. “Come on, let’s try again before the light changes.”
