Focused on Bruno

Judy froze, startled by the unexpected sound. The cold air in the room misted her breath, but she barely noticed. She shook the worry from her mind, forcing herself to stay focused on Bruno. Pushing the generator aside completely, she bent down and gripped the hatch handle with trembling fingers. She lifted, wood groaning as it swung open. A rush of cool, sandy air flowed upward—and there stood Bruno, tail wagging, eyes bright, waiting below.
