Tentacles below

Her pulse quickened. From the shadowed base of the platform, thick black cables slithered upward, emerging from the ocean like serpents. They were bundled tightly, rising in groups that twisted and writhed as if alive. The water foamed around them where they broke the surface, barnacles and seaweed clinging to the older lines. Some swayed stiffly in the waves, worn and scarred from years beneath the sea. They clung like scars, remnants of something vast.
