Pete leaned heavily on the wheel, his eyes fixed on Judy as the boat floated under the steel legs of the strange platform. The story sounded wild, almost unbelievable, but there was no lie in her voice. She believed every word, and that alone gave it weight. Pete’s jaw tightened, and he muttered firmly, “Sounds like shady business.” His tone carried more conviction than doubt. Judy felt a faint thread of hope spark inside her.
