The Ladder

Pete pointed toward a narrow ladder that dangled from the side of the platform, swaying slightly with the chop of the water. “That’s our way up,” he whispered. The boat drifted closer, bumping gently against one of the steel legs. The structure loomed high above them, groaning with the weight of machinery. Together, they maneuvered alongside, trying not to make noise. The hum of the engines and the slap of water masked their movements.
