Shining a light

Edwin unclipped his flashlight and clicked it on. Its beam swept across the cavern, carving brightness into the shadows. The light caught faint glimmers, hinting at passageways ahead.
Silence pressed against their ears, broken only by dripping water. Then, as if guided, both men turned toward the place where the chain continued, rusted links cutting across the floor into the unknown.
