Much needed rest

By the time Ben reached his bedroom again, his heartbeat was beginning to slow. The adrenaline from moments ago had faded from his body, making the 70-year-old farmer tired quickly. He sat on the edge of the bed, rubbing his temples, listening to the steady tick of the old clock. Ben lay down at last, ears still pricked for sound. Within minutes, sleep reclaimed him. And that was good—he would need all his energy for what was about to come his way.
