Getting crowded

Before he could study the scene further, the sheep surged forward, nudging and pushing at his legs. They seemed desperate to get under the porch themselves, bleating insistently as if drawn by something inside. “This doesn’t work, guys,” he grunted, trying to block them. The last thing he needed was animals trampling through whatever strange thing this was. He waved his arms and herded them back toward their pen, sweat prickling along his neck.
