Fully awake

Then the quiet night broke entirely. From somewhere beyond his bedroom window, Ben heard his sheep moan in that uneasy tone they used when unsettled. Seconds later, the chickens in their pen erupted into frantic squawking, wings flapping against the wire, echoing into the night. His eyes snapped open fully now. This wasn’t some random night noise. Something was definitely out there, stirring up his animals. And once his livestock panicked, Ben knew he couldn’t simply roll over again.
