Like Any Other Day

The two men ate breakfast afterward, sitting at Ben’s table as though it were any other day. But the unspoken weight lingered, thicker than steam rising from mugs.
Clinton eventually stood, preparing to leave, but not without one last word. “Keep me updated if anything changes. Promise me, Ben.” Ben nodded solemnly. Clinton walked out into the sunlight, leaving Ben alone with the waiting.
