Crossing the line

At first, the dogs seemed indifferent to her presence. But when she reached for the handle, everything changed. In unison, their bodies stiffened, ears snapping up, barking erupting sharp and furious.
A few stepped closer, lips curling, teeth flashing. Abby’s hand froze, her pulse surging. She stumbled backward, retreating to her porch.
