That change came with the dogs. Abby’s neighborhood wasn’t a place where strays roamed in packs. In ten years, she had seen only a handful, and none lingered.
But one night, sharp barking jolted her awake. She crept to the window, heart racing, and froze. At least seven dogs circled the green car, their bodies weaving around it like sentries.
