A man at the end

At the far end of the dim room, Abby saw him. A man sat cross-legged on the floor beside a small camping stove, its flame flickering.
His back was straight, posture calm, as though waiting. Firelight etched deep lines across his weathered face, telling of hardship. Abby froze where she stood, unsure if she’d stumbled on danger.
