The Hero’s Welcome
Word spread quickly through the zoo. Guests and staff alike heard of Julia’s calm bravery and the connection she had formed with the baby hippo. By the time she and David left the enclosure, applause followed them again, this time louder and more genuine than during the proposal.
Julia blushed, still shaken but smiling. David held her hand proudly. “First a fiancée, now a hero,” he teased softly. Julia laughed nervously, though her heart felt strangely proud.
