His neighbor peeked over the fence, asking what he was doing. Mark mumbled about pests, unwilling to admit what he suspected. The man chuckled and walked away.
As soon as he left, the mound swelled higher, like pressure was building inside. Mark stared at it, unsettled, unable to look away from the shifting ground.
