The Hiss of Air
Just as the argument grew louder, a sudden hiss broke through the air. Everyone froze in silence, their eyes darting back toward the balloon at the dockside.
The sound lasted only seconds before stopping completely. Water slapped quietly against wood. Nobody moved. It was as if the strange object had breathed, then gone still again.
