Kenji’s heart pounded as they wedged the crowbar into the seam again. This time, the latch gave a long, creaking groan. A hiss of trapped air escaped, smelling of salt and age. The sound made everyone freeze. “You sure about this?” one asked. Kenji nodded. “Whatever’s inside deserves to see daylight again.” Slowly, he pried the shell open an inch wider.
